Our spring visits to Cornwall always prove popular, and for 2018 we’re adding a brand new itinerary to our all-inclusive stay at the Newquay Esplanade! Discover some of the county’s best gardens, plus enjoy a visit to the historic Prideaux Place.

Day 1

We make our outward journey to Cornwall, with a suitable lunch stop along the way. We will be welcomed at the Newquay Esplanade hotel with a delicious Cornish cream tea and during our stay you will also be able to take advantage of a free bar from 6-9pm each evening on selected brands plus evening entertainment on three nights. We will also be treated to a Cornish themed menu for one of our evening dinners.

Day 2

After a leisurely breakfast, we make a short journey north to Padstow, where we spend the morning exploring this charming fishing port surrounded by sandy beaches and beautiful rugged coastline. Padstow is famous as a foodie destination, with Rick Stein’s fish and chip shop or his sit-down Seafood Restaurant as particular highlights, but there are also a host of cafes, pubs and quaint gift shops to keep you amused. After lunch, we visit Prideaux Place, an Elizabethan Manor just outside Padstow which has been in the same family since its completion in 1592. We will be welcomed with tea or coffee and biscuits before taking a guided tour of the finest of Prideaux Place’s 81 rooms. The house combines traditional Elizabethan architecture with the 18th century exuberance of Strawberry Hill Gothic and inside, like the real family home it is, Prideaux Place is an engaging mixture of different periods and pieces. Exquisite Italian paintings jostle with family portraits and photographs, porcelain and antiques sit unselfconsciously next to comfortable furniture and assorted Prideaux-Brune memorabilia, every one of which evokes a nostalgic anecdote. After the tour, take time to explore the beautiful gardens, which have been undergoing an exciting restoration programme under the current inhabitants. Many additions and new plantings have been made including an 80 tree lime avenue, the remodelling of the Victorian Formal Garden, a hornbeam allée, the woodland walks re-traced and an Acer Glade.

Day 3

Today, we give you the option of visiting the wonderful Eden Project, nestling within the giant 50 meter deep crater overlooking St. Austell Bay where you will find two gigantic conservatories, one a majestic rainforest, the other a warm temperate Biome. This Project has been hailed ‘The 8th Wonder of the World’. Entrance costs are not included in the brochure price but can be booked in advance at a special price of £18.50 per person. Those not wishing to travel to the Eden Project can enjoy a day exploring Newquay.

Day 4

Make a fascinating journey to The Lost Gardens of Heligan. These incredible 200 acres of gardens and estate lay neglected and forgotten after the workforce left to fight in the First World War until the gardens were rediscovered in 1990 and lovingly restored. Heligan is now a paradise for the explorer, wildlife, plant lover and garden romantic. Victorian Productive Gardens and Pleasure Grounds beckon, along winding paths laid out over two centuries ago. The Jungle takes you on a sub-tropical journey through bamboo tunnels and under majestic tree ferns, giant rhubarb and bananas whilst the estate reveals a lost world of traditional and rare breeds, wildlife and ancient woodlands.
