A restful and relaxing early-summer cruise-and-stay package exploring the entire length of the River Yonne from Monterau to Auxerre, plus a fascinating day on the Canal du Loing between Nemours and Moret-sur-Loing, with even a few miles of the River Seine for good measure!Book Now
This is easy cruising at its best, peaceful canal and riverside scenery, comfortable accommodation, excellent on-board hospitality and free time to explore some of the historic cities and towns that we cruise through.
Coach departs Folkestone mid morning and after a pause for lunch in or near to Reims it is scheduled to arrive in Sens at around 18:00. We enjoy a welcoming evening meal at our hotel.D
We make the journey of 40 minutes or so from our hotel to the lovely riverside setting of Nemours where our cruise begins. It would be difficult to picture a more beautiful place from which to set-out, the river moorings in Nemours are set against the splendid early 19th Century bridge over the Loing and overlooked by the church and château, both of the 12th Century. Setting out from Nemours, our cruise makes north on the Canal du Loing, passing through 6 locks as we conclude for the day in the delightful gated town of Moret-sur-Loing, notable for its impressionist connections. There will be time to stroll into Moret-sur-Loing before the coach leaves in late afternoon to take us back to Sens.B, L, D
The coach takes us back to Moret-sur-Loing (around 40 minutes) and our cruise now takes us on to the River Seine, where we turn upstream and follow the river about 12km to its confluence with the River Yonne and Monterau-fault-Yonne. From here we continue on the Yonne through quiet countryside past the villages of Cannes-Écluse and Misy-sur-Yonne and onwards to Pont-sur-Yonne where we conclude for the day - it's only a 15-minute hop from here back to our hotel in Sens.B, L, D
This morning we return to Pont-sur-Yonne to enjoy a shorter cruise concluding at lunchtime in Sens, where the boat will station for the afternoon to serve as a base for those who would like to stroll into the city centre to see the wonderful Cathedral St Étienne, museums, gardens and shopping centre.B, L, D
This morning we check-out of our hotel in Sens and with luggage safely aboard the coach, we continue our cruise upstream as far as another delightful gated town, Villeneuve-sur-Yonne. We enjoy lunch here in the stunning riverside setting of the Auberge La Lucarne aux Chouettes before allowing some free time to stroll the walls of the old town and visit the gate towers and church The coach then takes us to check into our hotel for the remainder of the week, the Mercure at Appoigny.B, L, D
We return to Villeneuve-sur-Yonne to continue our cruise, pausing over lunch to enjoy the lovely riverside setting of medieval Joigny. We then spend a free afternoon in Auxerre, whose spectacular waterfront with the Cathedral St Étienne and Abbaye St Gervais makes this one of the most attractive skylines in all of France.B, L, D
Returning to the Natalia at Migennes for a brief experience of the Canal de Bourgogne, we drop back down on to the River Yonne which takes us onwards through the villages of Gurgy and Monetau into Auxerre where our cruising concludes. Over the week we will have cruised a total of 140km and passed through 34 locks.B, L, D

The Ibis Hotel, Sens
For our first 4 nights we stay at the Ibis and Ibis Budget Hotels which are co-located in a retail park just south of the city. These light and airy hotels are of modern construction and offer all the normal 2-3* facilities. Our stay here includes set 3-course dinner. Our room allocation includes rooms in both the Ibis and Ibis Budget hotels, which adjoin and share a common reception and restaurant. There is not a great deal of difference in standards of room comfort and refinement, but in fairness to early bookers we will allocate the 3* rooms on a first-come first-served basis.
The Mercure Appoigny
For our remaining 3 nights we stay at the well-rated and quiet 4* Mercure at Appoigny, about 7km north of Auxerre and nicely central to the remainder of our cruise itinerary. Our stay includes a 3-course dinner every evening.
On cruise days an on-board lunch is included and a free bar operates throughout. As well as teas, coffees and soft drinks, the bar stocks bottled beers and a range of wines including local Chablis, Bourgogne Aligoté and Irancy rouge, Crémant de Bourgogne, and a Provence rosé.
On Wednesday 22nd we enjoy lunch-out at the riverside auberge in Villeneuve-sur-Yonne.
Our tour package includes all evening meals, with wine. Guests need budget only for lunches on the two travel days.
On Board Facilities:
Our boat has been designed to comfortably accommodate a coachload of passengers in lounge-standard seating and there is additional seating outside for those wanting to take in the views and fresh air. There are 3 bikes on board free of charge for anyone who would like to ride the towpath. The boat has two WC/washrooms. An on-board lunch is included and a free bar operates throughout.
Our boat is hybrid-engined and normally charges overnight from shore supply. Its diesel engines are only used if battery power is exhausted, so most of the time you can look forward to silent cruising. The saloon roof is bedecked with solar panels which reinforce battery endurance and support the boat's air conditioning system.
We also operate to a strict waste-avoidance policy. We try to completely avoid the use of single-use plastics and we operate to a responsible recycling code. All meals and drinks on board are served using normal crockery, cutlery and glassware. Our crew also has a brief to support the recovery from rivers and canals of floating litter whenever this is practicable.
