Afterwards we are taken on a 45 minute guided tour of the museum. Day 3

This morning we make our way the beautiful Georgian market town of Knutsford which has a selection of independent boutiques and popular high street stores - there is plenty on offer for the shoppers amongst us. Alternatively, why not visit the Heritage Centre (closed Mondays) on King Street and learn about Knutsford's famous ancestors, such as the Victorian author, Elizabeth Gaskell, and the notorious Highwayman Higgins, as well as Charles Royce, the engineer who created the Rolls Royce.

We can enjoy a lunch in one of Knutsford's many fine eateries before visiting the historic Anderton Boat Lift. We admire the massive iron framework, a masterpiece of high Victorian Engineering, as it lifts canal boats 50ft between the Weaver Navigation and the Trent & Mersey Canal before experiencing the lift first hand in a glass covered boat on a 30 minute voyage! Afterwards we enjoy a unique 45 minute cruise along the River during which we can discover the industrial heritage of Northwich, a town which has made its living from salt for 2,000 years.
