Alvaston Hall is the perfect place for an active break, with an abundance of activities to keep you on your toes. Well known for its 9 hole golf course, you’ll also be able to enjoy a game of croquet, have a go at archery or rifle shooting or perhaps just relax at the leisure club.

Day 1

Today we make our way to Alvaston Hall, with a lunch stop en route in Rugby. Famously the birthplace of Rugby football, understandably many of the town's attractions stir the passions of sporting enthusiasts. But delve deeper and you'll discover much more to the town, packed with heritage, museums and gardens plus cafes and shops. Travelling on a Monday, we expect to be able to visit Rugby's town centre market.

We arrive at Alvaston Hall with time to freshen up before dinner.

Days 2-4

Depending on weather and demand, we will offer optional excursions to Knutsford and Arley Hall and Gardens; Stoke-on-Trent; and Chester. Alternatively, spend all your time in the resort sampling the many activities on offer!

Knutsford & Arley Hall and Gardens: The compact and pretty town of Knutsford is known has the inspiration and setting for Elizabeth Gaskell's Cranford. Well worth a visit is the Knutsford Heritage Centre, located in 17th century timber framed building, where guided walks depart to reveal the town's history and literary connections. After lunch, visit nearby Arley Hall and Gardens (entrance not included). While the current Arley Hall was completed in 1845, the estate dates back over 500 years. The elaborate ceilings & oak panelling, impressive fireplaces, intricate stained glass and beautiful contents are features which make Arley Hall so special. The house sits in beautiful grounds and gardens, and Arley won Gold at RHS Tatton Park for their The Flowers of Arley show garden.

Stoke-on-Trent & Trentham Gardens: Stoke-on-Trent is a unique city affectionately known as The Potteries. With its rich industrial heritage it has respectfully claimed the title of World Capital of Ceramics. The city boasts many visitor centres, award winning museums, authentic factory tours, over 20 pottery factory shops and the exclusive Staffordshire Hoard. Spend all day exploring Stoke, or rejoin the coach to make an afternoon visit to Trentham Gardens. These beautiful Italian Gardens are set around the mile long, Capability Brown designed Trentham Lake (entrance not included).

Chester: Chester's bewitching beauty and unique atmosphere make it one of Britain's most popular visitor attractions. The ancient city is a breathtaking experience and each chapter of Chester's history is etched into the very fabric of the city, from Roman Legionaires marching to war, Viking raiders and Norman invaders. Chester has the most complete city walls and the largest Roman Amphitheatre in Britain, plus a 1000 year old Cathedral with Europe's finest example of medieval carvings. Plus the famous 700 year old Rows galleries where shopping is a double delight.
